With a $1,000 grant, Stitchin' Mission's free beginner quiltmaking lessons could be videotaped, and along with a coordinator's book, made available to churches outside the Des Moines area, expanding this ministry to enable others to make more quilts for more in-need babies and children.
BACKGROUND
In 2005 I began teaching free beginner quiltmaking lessons at my church so we could send quilts to a mission. Our first quilts went to families living in squalid conditions in Juarez, Mexico. Since those first series of lessons, I have continued to lead beginner quiltmaking lessons in churches of various denominations throughout the Des Moines area. The ministry is called Stitchin' Mission. In return for free lessons, I ask students to donate their quilt to that church's selected mission. To date, 689 people have participated in Stitchin' Mission, and 895 quilts have been delivered all over the world. On average, 32.8 people attend each Stitchin' Mission series, and 42.7 quilts are made and donated.
Because many people have inquired about how they might host a Stitchin' Mission outside of the area I am able to travel, a $1,000 grant would be used to produce a five-lesson video and coordinator's book. Then, churches and other host sites across the US, and the world, could offer their own Stitchin' Mission.

A grateful beginner quilter from Sydney.I never would have completed my quilt without your enthusiasm and patient teaching.
Wishing you all the best! Your efforts have been a blessing to so many -- I'm certain the little boy living with his family at a garbage dump in Jamaica can still access the love sewn into his prized "blanky". You're an inspiration!
Does this entry even qualify since it's a church affiliated non-profit?
This is all so exciting! We (here in Sydney) do hope you win your dream Linda, so that many more folk can share in your wonderful Stitchin' Mission course (we just loved it)
Supporting my family!! Voting for you everyday Linda!! You and your work are a blessing to so many. Love you!
I'm one of the St Mark's Australia quilters - this was such a blessing individually, for those who particpated and importantly for those who received. We had such fun over the five weeks and the quilts were displayed twice in our Church - at Christmas and Pentecost - it was breathtaking. Please support this fabulous ministry may it grow like every stitch in every quilt - we can all make a difference!
Well done, keep voting for this ministry. i was in competition with you until now (not really, you are blowing us away). Good luck, im bowing out. God bless you
Our camp is one of the places where given their quilts with love and prayers!! It is a wonderful ministry shown God's love!
I'm so proud to be able to vote for this project. Best of luck Linda!
Thanks Linda for letting me know about this.
So happy you are still doing this. From someone who knows the joy you bring to other people.
Linda,
I hear from friends that this is a wonderful ministry. When time allows please let me know how I can contact you to get information to share with my church in Pittsburgh. May God Bless your efforts a hundredfold!
Casting my vote for a great project.
A great program and I hope my vote helps.
Would love to help but I have arthritis in my back and I just can't bend over cutting, etc. But I would sure like to help.
I'm President of The Crafting for Charity Club and we are also seeking funding through Dream Big, Grow Here. I wanted to contact you and see if your group would like to help with our 3rd annual quilt-in. The quilts we make at this event are going to Pediatric Cancer Patients at Blank Children's Hospital.
You group might also be interested in helping with some of our other projects as well. Go to our website and you will find information about our past and present projects. I hope we can help each other!
You can contact me directly at [email protected]
After a friend from Christ Life who has been involved in taking your class and making quilts for the mission alerted me to this wonderful Dream I have voted and posted on my Facebook page for my friends to do so as well. I have seen the wonderful works around HOPE and am over whelmed by the out pouring of love. May God continue to bless you and your Mission of quilts.
A wonderful project bringing so much joy and comfort to many people. I wish you every success and many more quilts to come. Maybe St marks in Hillarys Perth wa could start up a quilters club.
You go girl!!
Hi Linda, good luck you deserve to win - you are an inspiration in giving :)

This is fantastic! My church ladies have been asking to start something just like this! Its hard being in the country in Australia, opportunities are limited.

WOW what an opportunity. I would LOVE to be able to offer this at my church here in Australia......Good luck!
The program is wonderful to new quilters. The helpers are so wonderful to help. I took the program quite a while ago at the Hope Church and loved every minute of it. Thank you so much.
What a wonderful program - fun to participate - made alot of friends and it was touching to know that the quilt I donated was going to someone who would love it!
trying to work out how to register a vote. It's very complicated. That's probably why no one has yet.
Sharing the love is what it's all about. Thanks for leading us to do that Linda!
I'll be saying prayers asking for this for you, as well as sending out emails and posting on Face Book, Linda. This is such a wonderful programme.
I'd be delighted to help you achieve your dream, Linda. Your 5 week Stitchin' Mission at St Mark's has left a wonderful and lasting legacy as we continue to make quilts for others who need them. Our quilters love creating together as well - it's a win/win!! I would LOVE other churches to be able to benefit from your truly inspirational teaching, especially here in Sydney, Australia. You definitely have my support!!!!
Go Linda. You are the most inspirational and energetic lady who does so much to inspire this Stitchin' Mission Dream - you soooooooo deserve to win this $1,000 ... the Stitchin' Mission which you ran for us here in Sydney late last year was fantastic and we would love to help your dream come to fruition.
