My dream is to bring a fitness center to my hometown, Afton. As a full time nurse and a mother of two I have experienced first hand how difficult it is to find the time to schedule regular exercise into my life, living in a rural community where the closest fitness facility is at least ten miles down the road presents an even bigger problem. These factors are a big part of what got me started on my journey to this point. After several months of research and planning, my husband and I, along with the help of our local small business development center have developed a sound plan for our proposed center. The Afton Fitness Center will offer 24/7 access to our members so that any schedule can be accommodated. Our plan is
to provide an assortment of cardio and strengthening equipment as well as offering personal training options and various classes for all age groups. In addition to affordable membership costs, we also plan on offering discount rates for local businesses, groups and seniors. A concentrated outreach will be directed to the elderly population in our community by offering specialized classes and inclusion of fitness equipment that is designed especially
for persons with decreased mobility. Massage therapy and leasing options with local rehabilitation groups are also services that we plan to incorporate into the fitness center. Our intention is to bring a necessary service to our community while influencing the next generation in a positive way. We have had a lot of very positive feedback from our community in regards to this project and our community is excited at the prospect of a fitness center. This award would go a long way in making this dream a reality.
